The Salad of Life.

At work today all of the staff went out to lunch to celebrate a coworker’s birthday as well as mine (mine isn’t today, but later this month). We ended up deciding to eat at Mullet Bay. Everytime I go there I get a Cobb Chicken salad with this great Vidalia Onion dressing (but leave the bleu cheese off please). I just got back and realized that salads are pretty unique for a food to eat. Usually something is good, like a steak by itself, or chicken. But a salad has so much stuff in it like chicken, shrimp, steak, lettuce, bacon, tomatos, dressing, olives, hot peppers and so much more. When it’s all mixed up right it can make a great meal. This sort of reminds me of our lives as Christians. Our lives can get so mixed up…and sometimes stuff in our lives doesn’t really make any sense at all! It can get to a point where you might think…God what’s going on?…What does this mean in my life…in the mix of things where does this fall into place? I’ve had so many points in life like this where I felt in my heart that something needed to be done, yet it made no sense at all to do it. Sometimes it’s really tough and scary to have the faith to just take the leap and go for it…while sometimes it’s pretty simple. I realized that the things that I have faced, and will face, in life that don’t make any sense to me, are perfectly woven in God’s hands. They happen for a reason…sometimes to make us stronger, sometimes to move us along in our relationship with Christ, but it’s usually both because God desires us to grow in Him and to know Him and he desires a relationship.  And in the end it will taste good…taste and see. Just like a salad having all of these different ingredients and sauces and vegetables. In the end it tastes good even though some of the parts in a salad you really wouldn’t think would taste good together…they all seem to make sense to your tastebuds.

Looking back in your life, do you have any moments like this that didn’t make any sense, yet you knew you were supposed to do something about it?

EDIT: OK, so maybe using the whole salad analogy wasn’t that good, if you’ve got any suggestions leave a comment and I can work with you. Cheers!
