Weekend Review.

This weekend Kara and I got away and had a little mini-vacation of our own. It was awesome. Not that spending time with each other at home on other weekends is not awesome, but it was great not to be around stuff we constantly think about – like cleaning, doing yard work, laundry, and running errands. It was great to wake up and not have to worry about anything or think about having to get stuff done. Kara got me this as my Christmas gift and I’m so glad that she did. As much as we drove last night it was worth every second to be away from home for a few days.

We went to Myrtle Beach and arrived Friday night around 12:30 in the morning. We took an exit that we thought would save us time – but we were wrong. It tacked on another hour. At least we know now not to take the Walterboro exit off I-95 north and 17A is not the same as 17. We checked in and got to our room. When we walked in and it was tiny. The carpet was plaid and the walls were almost a purple color. But we were at the Hilton. It was nothing like what they said and even the balcony was tiny. Our room was above the lobby so when looking down we saw/heard the roof of the lobby and AC units everywhere running. Kara, having worked for Gaylord Entertainment, and is now working in vacation rentals, called and let them know. The next morning we woke up in a 2-bedroom condo on the top floor! We really didn’t expect to be upgraded that much – but we were and enjoyed it. Here are a few pics of the room and view:

Over the weekend we also got to see my favorite band, Third Day, perform at the House of Blues. We made ‘call-ahead seating’ so we could get in the ‘Quick Line’ before people who didn’t eat. So, we ate, quickly, and made our way to the line. Needless to say, it was already pretty long. But, we were able to get second row! The show was great, different, but great. I’ve seen Third Day plenty of times, but only once in a small auditorium of 500 people and nobody opened for them. This place held 2,000, which is still pretty small, and they had 2 opening bands I’ve never heard of. Usually the bands are pretty well-known (Tait, Warren Barfield, tobyMac, etc). The openers were Revive and Need to Breathe. Revive was good and rocked – sometimes they sounded sort of typical though of new worship/christian artists. The other band Need to Breathe were really cool. Nothing like I’ve heard before. Really raw, southern rock with some folk thrown in.

Third Day was once again awesome – actually probably the most energetic I’ve ever seen them play before. It was different in one aspect because they are now a quartet – so it was strange after 13 years seeing them play without Brad Avery on stage. Third Day is the type of band where you see them as a family and never breaking apart especially after being together for so long. Other than, that the show was great – the energy was very high and Mac was on it like I’ve never seen. My ears are still ringing a little too.

Third Day

Yesterday we packed up and headed back to Georgia. This time took the normal ‘17′ and headed south. But not before eating at a pancake house and driving down Ocean Blvd. We made it to Richmond Hill and ate dinner with our parent’s (since they all live in the same town now) at Houlihan’s. Pretty cool place, but we had some bad service and the food looks artsy. We made it back to Brunswick and crashed.

Great weekend and we’re both looking forward to another mini-vacation soon!

  1. Tammy and I have seen Need to Breathe twice (some pics are on my blog). They are pretty good…but they are furman grads boo. :)
sounds like you guys had a great time!

  2. I bet the Third Day part of the show was emotional. I love those guys, and it just seems like it will be a whole new dynamic to the band as a quartet.

  3. Yeah, it was different. Mac stated that Brad isn’t with them anymore and the past 2 shows were the first played without him. They sounded powerful yet simple. You could tell Brad wasn’t there musically, but they all stepped it up a lot and sounded awesome. I wonder where or what he’ll be doing now?
